How to Choose a Drug Rehabilitation Center

Category : Drug Rehabilitation

According to Wikipedia.org, drug addiction is defined as “the compulsive use of psychoactive drugs, to the point where the user has no effective choice but to continue use.” Since drug addiction is a complex illness, it has so many dimensions and disturbs so many aspects of an individual’s life, dealing with this ailment is anything but simple.
When a person is at a ‘no control’ stage, drug rehabs must help the person discontinue use of drugs and maintain a drug-free lifestyle, while gaining productive functioning in the family, at work, and in society. There are many reasons why a person would need to attend a drug rehabilitation program. Some of them are: the inability to control drinking or drug use, cutting themselves off from their friends and family, criminal offenses, and problematic behavior at work. At such facilities, through therapy and education, the individual is helped to gain their former self. They are then able to become part of the society.
Now, let’s think about drug rehab centers and what images do you conjure? Resort-like facility or a strict hospital-like setting? Chances are, your perception does not cover the entire spectrum of drug treatment centers. Since there are several different types of drug rehabilitation programs available ranging from inpatient, outpatient, residential, short-term, and long-term, it helps to learn what’s out there and how to choose one. Here are a few :
First of all, gauge the situation by considering the following factors in the life of the individual who needs the drug treatment:
1. Age of individual
2. Insurance options
3. Type of drug used
4. History of criminal offenses if any
5. Friends and family support
6. Number of times the individual needed the treatment
7. Is the individual psychologically addicted and will they require complete behavioral alterations?
8. Will they have withdrawal symptoms?
After accessing the individual, you need to ask questions similar to the following to your physician, counselor and especially the drug treatment programs.
1. What types of medications are used in the treatment?
2. Which types of vitamins and/or natural treatments are used?
3. What is the counselor-to-patient ratio?
4. How do they medically manage withdrawal symptoms?
5. Test or assess infectious illnesses such as TB, HIV, Hepatitis etc.
6. Also, how long is the treatment program?
7. Are families involved?
8. What is the cost?
These and similar questions can help you find out more about the different drug treatment centers.
How do you access if the individual will need residential treatment programs? Residential treatments are geared toward those who have been addicted for a long time. These are usually longer programs and try to educate individuals to live in a drug-free community.
It is said that the best rehab programs are those that are structured to an individuals needs. This needs taking into consideration the individual’s race, age, culture, gender, employment, past drug history, criminal behavior and history of physical or sexual abuse. In choosing the drug treatment program, observe individuals within the drug program and notice their seriousness. It has been know that those who may have only tried a few drugs get more excited about trying other drugs when around serious drug users.
In most all drug rehab centers, regardless of their differences, they have one major goal: try to get the individual back to a drug-free lifestyle. Often times this requires more than one drug treatment and sometimes multiple attempts within a drug treatment center. Do not be discouraged. Do your part in researching and hopefully you will be able to find a drug rehabilitation center that will fulfill your requirements.

Why Approach a Drug Rehabilitation Center

Category : Drug Rehabilitation

Drug rehabilitation centers have come about as a blessing, not only for the sinking drug addict, but for the society as a whole. Reforming and freeing people is a godly act. Not all can indulge in such activities. These centers are not like hospitals or resorts in the true sense. They have to work with unpredictable human beings who at times can even turn violent. If there is a drug addict in your family, please do not hesitate to charter the services of a known drug rehabilitation centre. Addicts cannot be reformed with advices and love alone. Their body also needs to be toned up for a drug free existence. These centers, which are rather like cocoons without any undue interference from outside, treat the body, mind and spirit of the patient through medication, care and love. Great success has been achieved by the collective efforts of drug rehabilitation centers recently. Treatment methods based on sound medical philosophies are employed here. Once the addict is checked in, the centre takes over the action. He is put through a series of small steps to get back his normal state of mind and body and make him fit enough to lead a life of freedom. The centre first analyses the backdrop of the addict and his mental state. After acquiring a deep knowledge of his psyche, the experts at the centre start steps to help the body recover first. As we all know, drugs of all kinds leave a profound imprint if used for prolonged periods. The sediments left behind by them create toxins in the body. These harmful toxins make the body dependent on drugs and recurrence of craving for more drugs. Many well meaning drug addicts who tried to reform themselves failed due to the presence of such toxins in the body. The centers employ different medicine and exercise regimes to remove these toxins from the body. This is the most painful and delicate state of treatment. Many addicts show withdrawal symptoms and some even turn violent due to non-availability of drugs. Slowly and steadily, the staff and professionals of the centers turn them around. Once the body is free of drugs, the experts try to set right the mental blocks of the addict, which at the first place dragged him into drugs. The patient is made to attend yoga, games etc. to make him feel secure and strengthen his mental capacity. Now the body and mind of the ex-addict is free of clutter. The next is the rehabilitation stage. Many drug addicts may not have the required skills to perform some job in the society and earn a decent life. Such ex-addicts are taught some life skills. Now the person is fully fit to face any challenges. It has been found that the success rate of drug rehabilitation centers is very high. But make sure that the addict is enrolled in a good facility. Check out the Internet sites of such centers, pay personal visits, ascertain their success rates and then enroll an addict.

Because of a friend’s drug addiction, I have recently decided to have a career in a drug rehabilitation.
I’ve wanted to be an RN for a while, but I’m sure there are other requirements to work with patients in drug rehab centers.
I don’t really need to know the actions of the people and what I’ll be dealing with so much as what the REQUIREMENTS are.
If you know of any links or have any advice, please let me know.

Can I Admit My 17 Year Old Son Into A Drug Rehab Center Without His Permission?

Category : Drug Rehab In

My son is 17 years old, and has a severe drug addiction problem. He’s on nearly every Hallucinogen, and smokes marijuana daily. He won’t go into a drug rehab program, we’ve tried before. Can I commit him without his consent? I’ve heard before that at 17 he needs to sign a consent form, which he won’t. But there must be a way to get him help, he’s not even 18 yet. We live in Vermont if that helps. Thank you for your answers, we greatly appreciate them.
